Road Racing Bikes for Snow

Road racing bikes for snow A road racing bike for snow is a mountain bike (MTB) that is equipped with a road handlebar, studded tires and a bright tail lamp in order to be recognised by other cyclists and automobilists even in a strong blizzard. Bikes of this kind are one of our trademarks. We use them in order to train up the upper half of the body. Because it is very difficult to train that with a normal MTB handlebar.

The upper part of the body is very important for cycling. Tesseract says 90 percent of cyclist's locomotion ability depends on the upper part of the body. He was swimmer before becoming cyclist and he is better at swimming than cycling. So his locomotion really depends on the upper half of the body. Therefore, he built road racing bikes for snow to keep strength of the upper half of the body during the winter.

Now Tesseract is not the only one who rides road racing bikes for snow. Currently we have three other members who rides bikes of this type.

We are going to show some photos of those bikes.

Tesseract's bike This is the Tesseract's first road racing bike for snow. This bike was composed in 1995. At that time, nobody else rode this kind of bike.

Thanks to this bike, he became specialist of time trials. He won several time trial races of national junior level with huge gap. In addition, thanks to this bike, he still holds some course records he established in Hokkaido when he was active cyclist after more than ten years of retirement.

He says his cyclist career wouldn't have existed without this bike.

Tesseract's bike Tesseract's second road racing bike for snow was built in 2006. Those days, he wasn't active cyclist anymore, so he composed this bike for fun. He says this bike's manoeuvrability is very high, so he can ride on snow at 70km/h without fear.

Dr.K's bike Dr.K's road racing bike for snow was built in 2007. He was sceptical about the effectiveness of road racing bikes for snow before composing this bike. But once he was on this bike, he understood how effective this kind of bike is and he says he should have built this bike earlier.

Cairn's bike Cairn's road racing bike for snow was composed in 2008. He wanted to build a road racing bike for snow for long years. In 2008, he could finally arrange financially. He says it's too good and he would never want to ride a normal MTB again.

Mr.Takahashi's bike Mr.Takahashi's road racing bike for snow was composed in 2008. This bike was originally used as MTB but he changed the handlebar. He says it's much better than the MTB version.

Cairn's bike 2 Cairn's second road racing bike for snow was composed in 2009. He built this bike because his first road racing bike for snow was a little too long horizontally. His says its manoeuvrability is extremely high.

Dr.Zen's bike Dr.Zen's road racing bike for snow was composed in 2011. He built this bike because his first road racing bike for snow had become a little old.

Another usage of road racing bikes for snow:
Not only can you use them in winter but in summer as well you can use them if you put summer tires on them (cf. Off-season training reports/Okurige).

Notice:
Road racing bikes for snow are suitable for riding on snow covered roads on which cars can pass but not suitable for paths on which cars can't pass like trails, ski run, cliffs etc. If you ride on extreme terrain, you better ride normal MTBs.
